Due to the pandemic and the risk of the spread of the H1N1 virus, intinction (dipping the bread into the chalice) is no longer permitted in the churches of the Diocese of Calgary. For those not wishing to drink from the common cup, it is a perfectly acceptable tradition to receive communion in one kind (bread only.) Also, we are being asked to refrain from hugging (or at least hugging too much!) due to the associated risks of the flu season. Hand sanitizer is available in the pews and works on bacteria, however it is important to remember that only careful handwashing will remove virus on the hands.
Proper handwashing should take long enough to sing Happy Birthday twice, or the Lord's Prayer once!
